An introduction to my photography

Hi there! I am Josey, thank you for reading my first blog post! I am a local photographer based in North Yorkshire, U.K. It is October 2018 and this week I graduated with a distinction in an Art & Design HND. So here I am, at the start of my journey into the world of REAL WORK! But it is more than that, it is the beginning of my dream of becoming a full time photographer, the beginning of earning a living doing what I love and most importantly creating a lifestyle that brings me an overwhelming amount of happiness and fulfilment.

I have been brought up with a generation where around 95 million photos are uploaded each day on social media, there are 4.2 billion Instagram likes per day! If a photograph I take can catch a second glimpse from you, an image created with an eye for detail still engages you in this modern world then I feel like I am on the right path in my journey. Now more than ever a camera is accessible to all, yet I am so determined to create images no phone can automate or imitate. An image that isn’t created by the camera but instead by the photographer through intuitiveness, an eye for detail and an understanding of light.

When I look back on my childhood photographs and family life I see a spirit of the times, a particular period of history I will never get back, yet visual memories lay in front of me giving me a sense of nostalgia. I see no phones, no technology, in fact, just hopscotch or conkers! I guess this is influential to my portrait work now, through my child and family portraits I want to give you the same treasured memories, to document your children searching for fairies in woodlands or collecting crabs at the seaside, to capture stories and moments of them being young, wild and free in the heart of nature or an environment connected to your livelihoods. My sessions give you a chance to take time away from the madness that is modern life, a chance to spend time with your loved ones. I am so excited and motivated to be on this journey that involves meeting and photographing incredible people and their stories.

What I find the most rewarding about photographing people is that you’re giving me the opportunity to be part of your world, enabling me to document you, your life, the moments you will never get back, moments you may not think to capture in your daily routines. These photos can be passed down in generations to come, they can and will become a part of your family legacy.

This leads me to the new plans in my photography packages. Despite our ever growing social media, I still believe that producing prints and other physical items that last a lifetime is so important. It is so easy for our memories to become lost on social media, through prints we can be given visual reminders of great moments on a daily basis. For this reason I have decided to include a selection of prints into my new packages, which I hope brings some excitement to my clients.

Portrait photography isn’t my only niche in photography, I am a lover of the outdoors and being immersed into the wilderness. In the near future I hope to discover new and enchanting destinations where I can combine my love for rural landscapes and my portrait based work together to push my photography work to new levels and challenge my creativity. To learn more head over to my personal work to see the beauty of the natural world through my eyes.

I can’t wait to share more of my plans, challenges, sessions and stories with you all, I intend on creating a blog post once every 1-2 weeks so please feel free to subscribe for updates! Thank you again for reading and I hope to see you next week!
