September Sunset Session

As soon as Leanne and her sweet family jumped out of the car I couldn’t control my excitement! Checkered shirts, knitted jumpers, dungarees and floral headbands… Leanne had styled her family great for our September sunset session.

The session took place late afternoon on Saturday the 29th, the sun was beaming down creating a soft warm glow on everything it touched. The time we arranged the session was perfectly fitting with the location I had chosen. This rural place was local to both myself and Leanne. Whilst walking my pooch on countless occasions I had stopped and noticed how dreamy the Autumn light was as it bounced along the tall grass on this plot of land. The old horse shelter adding a rustic look to the area. I knew I had to shoot here whilst the grass was high. When I suggested this place to Leanne she was delighted to have her family portraits taken here!

Leanne and Dave have two beautiful children, Bradley (8yrs) and Chelsie (2 yrs). For them this session was special, they were wanting some good memories to look back on. This was their first ever family of 4 photoshoot and so I wanted to make sure I was capturing the personalities of everyone whilst telling a visual story of the session.

Did you enjoy the outdoor session?

“I loved that our family session was outdoors as the location looked so great in the photographs, especially with the time of day we agreed on. Being outside allowed Josey to capture the kids playing and having a good time without getting bored on the shoot. ” - Leanne

Leanne is used to being in front of the camera, she is a fantastic model who throughout the years has helped me progress in my portrait work. Dave has not been photographed much previously and for the kids it was their first time! This gave me even more reason to make the session as enjoyable as possible, having the children play in their natural way made it fun and more comfortable for the children so I could capture them honestly.

Were you all comfortable in front of the camera?

“My partner Dave doesn’t always feel comfortable in front of the camera, but when he left the shoot he said what a different feeling it was with Josey as our photographer than the others he has been with. He felt much more at ease and natural with Josey. Our whole family were having fun on the session so it felt more like a few hours bonding with the children than a photoshoot.” - Leanne

For all my sessions I try to create an atmosphere that is playful, interesting, fun or gets your family connecting. I strive to make my family sessions feel natural and a time where you can be yourselves in comparison to feeling quite unnatural in a small space. This is why outdoor settings are my absolute favourite!

For anyone wanting family photographs that bring you real personality and the character of your loved ones, I urge you to book! If you’re reading this and realise that your family photographs are becoming outdated, please feel free to email me.
